Java support in browsers

Hello.

As the Java support in browsers (Firefox especially) is being withdrawn, is there any other option to use Jalview in browsers?

Thanks.
Mohamed

Hi Mohamed,

As the Java support in browsers (Firefox especially) is being withdrawn,
is there any other option to use Jalview in browsers?

At present, no. There's a prototype of 'JSJalview' developed by Bob
Hanson but it is based on old Jalview code from 2015, and needs a fair
amount of work to make fully functional.

For the moment, the best we can offer for jalview views is to run
Jalview in batch mode and use one of the HTML export options. Pixel
perfect Jalview views can be created as SVGs embedded in scrollable
divs, and a template is also available for the BioJS msaviewer which
displays the msa & annotation using BioJSON embedded in the page.

You can also create your own HTML export template if you want to use
another javascript msa viewing tool. Instructions are (annoyingly)
buried in the Jalview source distribution's doc directory:

http://source.jalview.org/gitweb/?p=jalview.git;a=blob_plain;f=doc/biojsmsa-templates.html;h=40e326dbee4eeb8a31a451fa98c59282889354f8;hb=dfb7b17a2c6b0019320d6fbdddbbd16b933dc62d

Let us know if you want to try the server-side/template model. Sorry we
can't give you a better solution yet !

Jim
