Does Jalview require a license for Oracle Java please or will it run on a typical university deployed Microsoft or other system using free or open source Java such as OpenJDK please? Thank you!
Hi Andrew.
Jalview requires no Oracle licensing to install or run. We develop and test Jalview with Open JDK, and the Jalview installation packages include OpenJDK runtimes provided by Adoptium.
There are some old versions of Jalview that were bundled with Oracle java, but we have not recommended their use for some time.
I hope that helps !
Jim Procter.
Thanks so much - I expected that would be the case!
Best wishes
Andrew
