Cheerpj - another way of running Jalview in the browser ?

Hi All - I noticed this in my google now feed this morning:
https://cheerpjdemos.leaningtech.com

It's a cross-compiled opendjk runtime (15Mb worth) that is supposed to
provide a desktop like experience from within a browser window. It also
provides a Cheerpj Java Runtime plugin for chrome that is supposed to be
able to run applets directly from their bytecode.

I tried it with JalviewLite - no joy - but may be worth looking at. They
say that if you ask them they will have a go at making applets work with
their system...

Jim.

I notice their staff includes someone who “specializes in molecular biology”. Might be interested in enabling Jalview?

Maybe - though the notice on the plugin says “if your commercial, enterprise or internal Applet does not run, contact us at info@leaningtech.com. We can make it work in a short time.” - which suggests they will do this for a fee.

I experimented a bit more. With old versions of the applet (pre JSmol & pre JalviewJS Javascript callbacks) I could get an alignment window’s menu to appear, but not much else. I didn’t have any of the v.3 embedded applet pages to hand, I expect those will work to some extent, but not perfectly.
