Dear Jim,
Warm Regards,
I am writing to report the problem I encountered while launching Jalview,
Particulars:
Jalview Version Installed: 2.8.2 Since Dec 2014
Earlier Java Version installed : Version 7 Update 71 1.7-Jre Date:08/Dec/2014
Latest Java Version Updated to: Version 8 Update 31 1.8.0_31 Jre Date:08/Feb/2015
System : Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 4GB-Ram
Problem Description:
I have been using the Latest Jalview version 2.8.2 since Dec-2014 without any problem, I had Java Version 7 Update 71 installed,
After Installing the Java updates to Version 8, Jalview fails to launch and throws an error message
“JAVA SE listed is 1.8 instead of 1.7 which is required for application.”
and “windows error 3 occurred while loading the Java VM”
I checked the Java Folders in Program files all 7Jre files are gone and replaced by ‘Jre 1.8.0-31’
This is the message on the ORACLE website regarding Java Updates
About the Java 7 Auto-Update to Java 8 Oracle started auto-updating Windows 32-bit and OS X,
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) users from JRE 7 to JRE 8 in January 20, 2015.
‘After April 2015, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 7 to its public download sites.’
I have checked the FAQ at the website. I am going to try and install Jalview without VM for windows.
Can you please let me know how to fix it?
Thanks
Kunal
